Greater pressure on young men than ever before. But we don’t need to invent anything new - a quorum. A quorum is: a class, a fraternity, a service organization.
Elder Brown: Fancy trips and activities do nothing to prepare young men to serve in the priesthood, enjoy its benefits - competing for attention by worldly standards. When judged by worldly standards, the quorum will most often lose.
Elder Bednar: going to church, going to the temple, going on a mission - miss the point. Can go on a mission and not become a missionary.

Worry about the ease and affluence of the rising generation. So much had for small price - but the price will be payed eventually.
Many children suffer from vitamin N deficiency - well-meaning parents over-indulge. Parents are too concerned with social acceptance of their children.
Teach children to work and be responsible. Create work for your children. Help learn self-discipline, eg learning an instrument (pres mcclure sidenote: critical shortness of piano skills in rising generation). Elder Maxwell: “I was a stranger to excellence” - sometimes work was sloppy; father was loving but exacting. Work is always a spiritual necessity, even if not an economic necessity.
If a young man is allowed to spend everything on himself, that selfishness may accompany him to the grave.
How can you become fully converted? How can you make the Gospel not just an influence in your life, but make it the controlling influence in your life?
Story of Brigham Young’s conversion: if they had come to me with the wisdom and eloquence of the world, it would have been as dust to me. But when a man without eloquence came to me and said only that I know by the power of the Holy Ghost.
You will need it for two reasons: to protect yourself, and to protect others.
