Pop goes the diet

Monday, April 10th, 2006

Here’s an interesting article on the health effects of soda pop

I find this point very interesting:

This means, that for the average teenager, their soda consumption virtually eliminates their chances of eating a balanced diet.

I remember drinking 2 or more soda every day during high school — of course I was burning a lot more calories overall those days as well. As I’ve gotten older, I have (somewhat) less appetite for soda, but it can still be very addictive. It’s not just the caffeine and such that would normally be considered addictive, but the sugar rush itself.

As with almost everything, this is something that can be consumed in moderation — but moderation for soda obviously means pretty small amounts.

I setup my WP blog using the auto-install feature on DreamHost. That was nice :)

Now I just have to get a theme configured (for blog and main site/wiki), support image gallery, etc… still plenty of other work to do in setting up a site.

General Priesthood Meeting

Elder Uchtdorf
Priesthood is a wonderful for good. Requires hard work, determination, and optimistic outlook. His hand will be over us, and he will help us to see the end from the beginning.
Story about his job delivering laundry as a boy - didn’t see the end from the beginning. But because of his training and conditioning, he was able to become jet fighter pilot and airline captain.
For the Strength of Youth - a gem for any age group. Standards for our worship at any age.
Temple is the link between generations. Live with understanding of our potential as children of God - see the end from the beginning.
Paul: body is a temple - ye are not your own, ye are bought with a price.
Joseph Smith: all blessings predicated on obedience. We must prepare to achieve blessings of the temple. All the principles are defined in For the Strength of Youth.

President Faust
One of the biggest stumbling blocks we must avoid is addiction. Not just alcohol tobacco and drugs. But addiction in general has serious consequences.

President Monson
When the time for performance arrives, the time for preparation is past. Let us be prepared when the opportunity comes - when we can testify of truth, answer a question or respond to a challenge. We must be prepared before hand.
Search - pursue - the scriptures. Understand the Oath and Covenant of the Priesthood.
To magnify one’s calling is to hold it up in importance. Aaronic Priesthood holders must be given opportunity to magnify their callings. Priesthood is not so much a commision to serve, lift, and bless.

President Hinckley
Strong statement on racial hatred, slurs and denegration. There is absolutely no place for that in the church.
Paul to Timothy: if any provide not for their own, he is worse than the infidel. It is responsibility of the man to provide for his family so long as he is physically able.
Bitterness and animosity is not a part of the gospel. Forgive us as we forgive those that trespass against us. This world needs men of love and forgiveness.
